You didn't fail in your stated purpose. Tye purpose wasnt to dig on a person, your goal was to show what not yo do at a table. Regardless of Orions reasons, his behavior was antithetical to a good table. He is excused for behavior due to exigenct circumstances, but that in no way deters the reason for the video.

When we played Curse of Strahd, i asked my DM if i could play a Ghostslayer Blodhunter and they agreed The campaign sadly ended at lvl5 early, but at that time i personally felt bad for being overpowered and started ronplay more reclessly so it could die and i could change to a supporting character

When I 1st heard DnD that's how I imagined it you develop character that you could take into different games with different people show everyone how awesome your character is

It might be all the rules you need in one book, but the monster manual and magic items are both separate books.

I feel the 1st Pathfinder book pic is a better fit for being a DM's guide, but I like the new 2024 d&d cover more as a piece of art. If Wayne Reynolds is the guy I think he is, then he was the first artist I ever commissioned convention sketches from (drawing a lizardfolk fighter I played when my old uni rpg crew was new and later the flightless dragon my players stole/adopted when they completely broke my campaign plans).

Shadowdark looks great - im torn between buying this and Crown and Skull. 😅 Incidentally, i have all my players roll for trinkets in 5e and they love it!

Deities and Demigods in the '80s had Michael Moorecock's Elric of Melnibone and Lovecraft's Call of Cthulu in their pantheon with out permission. They had to reissue the entire book without those pantheons after they got sued.

Hp in 5e is based on experience. characters get more when they level up. Plus, it is based on fighting ability and toughness warriors have more hp than wizards. It's a complete abstraction. To hit an enemy is only determined by armour and natural dexterity. hp explains why its so difficult to kill the Godlike 20th level warrior even if they're naked. The last 25% of hp on characters is a good place for actual damage to start. At 10th level, a barbarian lord can pull out arrows or shrug off spears impaling them. Just not at first level. 😉🤗

I loved the covers on the 3.5 core books. It seemed like you were grabbing a nice old bound tome. The art and color direction though makes them a lot more identifiable in a stack that I kind of prefer. Easier to quickly grab off the shelf or a stack.

I saved this episode for my birthday and it did not disappoint.

For me, I noticed something was wrong during that whole teleportation ward thing during the the start of the Briarwoods. I first got introduced through LOVM on Prime. I wanted to watch some of the arcs from the show so I jumped to the Briarwoods and I loved the moment with Percy explaining his backstory, but then it moves to this weird plot about Tiberius going through a Library then a magic shop and none of the other players have anything to do with it. Also the whole dagger thing seems way out of no where. I knew Tiberius wasn’t long for this world just from the show and what not, but that was the first time I noticed something was actually wrong.

I don't accept anyone using the term sausage fest anymore if they don't bother to call out all the cases of clam fests as well.

Maybe Somariel _does_ have a counterpart. it's just a being that few know of and almost no one would worship. It's Entropy. It could be represented by The Tower, but it wouldn't just break the building, It would _ummake_ the building. It deletes things from reality. Not only do those things cease to exist into the future, they also cease to exist in the past. No one worships it because trying to do so will irrevocably break a sound mind. The force of Entropy has no proper name. That may have been deleted, along with any concept of gender. The only correct answer to questions about 'The End' is "No".

I actually prefer the covers in 3rd edition, and i like the look of 3e over 3.5. As to the rules in the books, yes they were detailed, but because the devs 'showed their math', the system is easier for me to tinker with. About images on the covers: Well, _I'm_ the one holding the arcane tomes. I don't need to see someone else's assumption about who DMs or PCs the game and its stories.

The constant waffle of not being able to state your opinion is extremely tedious. Just state things and don't give an opinion. You don't have to tell me you aren't giving me your opinion every three seconds. Or give your opinion. Either way is better than this.

I'd like the modern covers (and art is general) if they were a little more adventurous. I'm just not a fan of them all being in that same art style.

It would be awesome if the DMG's back was basically the same as the front cover, but seen from behind (and a bit from above to fit everything). Seeing a shade of the dragon behind venger's open wings, the two mid villains in the middle and an endless army of undead marching towards like a city or something

I've really enjoyed almost all the art they've shown for the 2024 rulebooks. I love the style mixing a good ammount of realism, but keeping magic and elements more fluid and amorphous

Oh boy, Japan is getting weirder with their isekais. Now it's a pc that begins making awful crappy art stealing other artstyles that becomes a god in another world.

I really like the 2024 DMG cover, but I do think the dracolich should be slightly more defined I didnt see it at all until you pointed it out.

I've never banned a feat, but I have told my players I would be very disappointed if they took Lucky. I gave them all an extra feat at level 1, but the idea was to help them do something cool. Lucky adds no new dimensions to a character. Its so boring. They haven't taken it.

If that conan art is problematic for women, it's also for men. Both sexes are being sexualised in that artwork, there's no need to act like it's misogynist when in reality it's just showing off two unattainable idealised body types.

Funny enough I think being undramatic works for the cover of the DMG: it makes it look less like an action scene and more like a display of the dungeon master's toys. Still, I don't find it very exciting. 4e's might be my fave

Whoa, this is the first video of yours where I had to stop and check if I have the playback speed switched to x1.5 or something. It's late and im tired, so it could just be all on me, but I genuinely found it hard to follow because of how fast you talked.

Anyone new to the hobby, or anyone only coming in from 5E (2014), might take this as the way the DM should be running the game... if you put an "iconic" villain into the game, then they can't be defeated, they must survive...so its DM vs Players... and frankly, thats alot of what I keep getting from WotC since 2014...they power creep players, and they stonewall DM's with design tables in the DMG that dont work...and that are not the tables WotC use to create encounters with. So the entire process of trying to balance encounters (or set it as a difficult or easy challenge) by the DM, can be met with wild variables... This is my overall beef with WotC... they have no designers, and they are obsessed with "cartoonifying" D&D into something its not. And y'know what? It would be fine if thats what they wanted to do for their own original setting; Make Nentir Vale/The Dawn War setting so that it does have this cartoony vibe through it, so that it is whimsical and all that... but stop doing that to pre-established settings that are absolutely *NOT* that... y'know? EDIT: Oh, good, you mentioned Wayne... Y'know what else he basically designed all the art-style and design for? All the Eberron artwork... This is probably why I have such a fondness for that setting as well as Golarian...

Once again I'm here defending 3rd editions covers, when my cousins received these books for Christmas one year I was so filled with wonder of what hidden knowledge lay in those tomes that I immediately sought them out to learn of these dungeons and dragons. If any of these others were the covers I would have asked to flip through to see the rest of the art but not see the books as a key to something greater than thier printing.

The 4E DMG is my favorite for all the reasons you listed. It sells the narrative so well with the scrying orb that any divergence from that concept of watching the heroes struggle feels lesser by comparison.

The big difference with the way Taliesin "sometimes" meta games and the unnamed former player is that Taliesin does it so the players can win, the other guy did it so HE could win.

What's more frustrating is someone trying to twist alignment by going, "From their perspective, they're Lawful Good" after having their NPC assault another NPC that didn't do anything to them, which that was point the DM was using for the conflict. And it's like, no, that's not a Lawful Good character. Lawful Good doesn't just attacks someone out from nowhere. If you attack someone over prejudice, unless they're like the demons froms Freieren where it's confirmed they're soulless monsters to trick and sabotage their foes, then the character is most likely leaning closer to the Evil alignment

I'm enjoying the new covers having old icons of the game on the covers. The 5th and "2024 edition" (Hate that as a naming idea. really hope they just call it 5.5 or 6.) Evoke the old classics while still pushing for a newer style of game. I like the 3.0/3.5 covers for much the same reason that people have mentioned liking the color pallete of 5. I can ask for "the blue one" and get the book I need. I like the idea of them as tomes, but yeah, they fail to really show what the game is supposed to be. It assumes the "Brand recognition" of Dungeons and Dragons will carry it. This is okay for people who know what that is, but for new players, it does nothing to help.

I think your point about Saturday morning cartoon villains being a good idea for the front of the DM's Guide really only works if you know they're Saturday morning cartoon villains, which feels unlikely

I enjoyed all the covers back in the beginning, DMG, Fiend Folio, Monster Manual, Deities & Demigods, and TPH. One could always be found mixed in with my school books lol. Idk, the originals will always be the best in my opinion, the Fifth Ed and the new ones look good though, and are definitely better than what we had in the middle. Seeing the red dragon box and the AD&D efreeti DMG, soooo many memories. Yeah, I've been around a minute ;). I remember opening that box Christmas '79. I was early as it would be another year or two before friends would get interested. Usually meant I got stuck as DM since I'd read the books before any of them. Good times :).

I think it would make for an interesting video if you went through and followed your criteria for what makes a good DMG cover art, devised what you would consider your ideal cover, then commissioned someone to make it into a real cover for your DMG.
